Morning/Bedtime Routines To Set Your Day Up For Success

Getting your day off to the right starts with doing the right things during bedtime and during the morning before your day gets started. Planning, hygiene, exercise, meditation, and sleep are all important activities to prepare for a successful day.

Most people don't have a set routine for their bedtime or morning, causing them to just play it by ear. Unfortunately, we humans are lazy creatures of habit. Creating intentional bedtime and morning routines enables us to create healthy habits that will set us up to have the most successful day possible.

We will discuss activities and habits that you should incorporate into your bedtime and morning routines.

Stick to a Bedtime and Wake-up Time

Everyone has different sleep requirements, however, most people need somewhere between 6-9 hours of sleep to feel rested and energized. With work, family, friends, and the latest tv show you're binging, it can be difficult to get the right amount of sleep.

Sticking to a set time for bedtime and wake up time will ensure that you get the right amount of sleep. You can use apps or alarms on your phone to remind you of your bedtime and to remind you of when it's time to get up.

This also includes turning off screens or blue light sources at least an hour before bed. Blue light has been shown to make you more active and increase the time it takes you to go into REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is the deep, restful sleep your body and brain needs.

Drink Water

Drinking water should be a habit that you should be doing all day, however, drinking water before bedtime and first thing in the morning is crucial to preparing you for a successful day.

Drink Water Before Bedtime

When you go to sleep, your body is repairing its muscles, organs, and your brain from the stresses of the day you just experienced and it needs water to do this.  Be careful not to drink too much, too close to bedtime, your sleep could be interrupted by midnight trips to the bathroom.

Drink Water After To Wake-Up

Your body loses water as you sleep through digestion, repair, and breathing. Replenishing this water hydrates your organs and energizes your body for the day ahead. Be sure to rinse out your mouth when you wake up to remove the bacteria and germs in your mouth that collect overnight.

Meditation

Meditation has been practiced by many different cultures for thousands of years. It is a great way to set up the mindset you will have during the day ahead or quiet your mind to prepare for sleep.

Journal Writing

Writing in a journal is another great way to prepare for your day ahead or to reminisce about your day. It helps you organize your thoughts, set goals and intentions, and reflect on the previous day.

Planning Your Day

Planning your day can be done in a lot of different ways. You can create to-do lists, write down goals for the day, or organize your thoughts into categories that are important to you. This is an excellent way to set yourself up for success for the day by allowing you to focus.

Doing this at night can also help you sleep better especially if there's something pressing from the day that you need to ensure is completed.

Exercise in the Morning

While it might seem counterintuitive to wake up early and exercise, research has shown that people who do this are at a lower risk for chronic disease.

Exercise releases endorphins which make you feel good during the day ahead, it clears your mind and helps strengthen your bones and muscles.

Routines Help You Think Clearer

No matter what your routine is, setting a morning and bedtime routine allows you to focus less on the repetitive activities you should be doing and spend more time focusing on the important parts of your day that require your full attention.
